spiked’s 2025 internship programme is now open for applications.

We’re looking for someone to help us produce our free and fearless journalism. You’ll be working across all our editorial output – from our articles to our quickfire blogs to our growing roster of podcasts and video formats.

No experience is necessary, but if you have worked in journalism before, or know your way around video, audio and social-media management, then do make this clear in your application.

What matters most is that you’re passionate about spiked’s pro-freedom, pro-human politics; that you’re hard-working, dedicated and willing to learn quickly; and that you have an eye for a good story and a flair for journalism.

The placement will be paid and last six months. Successful applicants will work with the spiked editorial team, five days a week, in our office in London. You’ll be given all the training you need to kickstart your career in journalism. Plus, if you do well, there’s the possibility of more work at the end of it.

You have until Sunday 23 February to apply. Interviews will take place in March. Successful applicants can start in April.

To apply for the internship, email [email protected], attaching the following:

1) A CV and cover letter

In the cover letter, tell us a bit about yourself, why you’re the right person for the programme, and why you’d like to work at spiked.

2) An opinion piece

In 500 words, take a story in the news and write an opinion piece in response to it – something you could see fitting in on spiked. The aim here is concision, clarity and timeliness, in response to a recent news story or media discussion, rather than chin-stroking takes on a general theme. Also, give it a strong headline and standfirst – in spiked style.

3) A pitch for a video report or a podcast guest

In no more than 300 words, pitch an idea for our YouTube channel or a guest for one of our three podcasts. Give us a short outline of your idea and sell it to us. Just make sure it’s fresh – either on a story or theme we haven’t explored yet on video, or a guest who we haven’t yet interviewed on a podcast. For a podcast, include some questions we should ask the guest. And for a video report, explain how you’d bring the story to life.

Good luck. We look forward to working with you!
