‘No doubt Steve Irwin was a good bloke and his death was a shame. Not so long ago, however, he was condemned as a “drongo” and accused of child abuse after a stunt involving his infant son and a crocodile, while his “larrikin” image was widely considered an outdated embarrassment to Australia. Yet now he is feted as a hero by both the Australian Government and the US Embassy while, according to headlines, “The world weeps”. What did he do to prompt this…?’
