It wasn’t Trump who trashed gay rights – it was the trans lobby
Russell T Davies is so wrong to blame populists for the crisis of gay liberation.

Russell T Davies, TV writer, famed homosexual and the smuggest of luvvies, has hit out at Donald Trump. Apparently the evil oaf in the White House is trashing gay rights. He ‘is literally out to get us’, Davies says, conjuring up an image of The Donald lurking around gay bars with a baseball bat. Apparently, Trump wants gay folk ‘gone, defunded, completely invisible’ and ideally ‘biologically altered to become as straight as him’. The funniest thing about this rant is not its fact-lite delirium but its gall. For everything Davies accuses Trump of doing to gays is actually being done by a movement Davies himself supports – the trans lobby.
It was in an interview with the Big Issue that Davies, best known for reviving / ruining Doctor Who, let rip against Trump. And against Reform UK too, Nigel Farage’s party. ‘We, the gay community, [the] queer community, should be revolting in terror and anger and action’, he says. Because ‘what happens in America always happens here’. And right now we are looking down ‘the barrel of a Reform government’ that looks set to ape Trump’s hell-bent mission to make gays ‘invisible’. Gay rights are ‘rapidly and urgently getting worse’, he says.
It’s the hollowness of his dystopic wailing that is most striking. He gives not one example of how Trump or Farage has taken a cudgel to gay rights. How could he? These men are not 1980s-style conservatives who love to bark a Leviticus verse at canoodling men. They’re pretty socially liberal. Indeed, Trump hosted a ‘Trump Pride’ rally during his 2020 campaign. He held aloft a Pride flag emblazoned with the words ‘LGBT for Trump’. He once opposed same-sex marriage but then changed his mind – like Hillary Clinton. Anita Bryant he ain’t.
It fell to the liberal media to flesh out Davies’ thin warnings about the coming hell for ‘queers’. The Guardian tells us a Reform government would ‘ban transgender ideology’ in schools. Others have cited as proof of Trump’s hostility to ‘queers’ his flurry of executive orders on the trans issue. It is a dizzying moral folly to damn Trump in one breath and big up trans in the next – for trans has done far more to ‘defund’, ‘invisibilise’ and even ‘biologically alter’ gay people than Trump ever could.
Davies says Trump wants to ‘defund’ gay-rights groups. Does he? I tell you who does: the trans lobby. Witness its ferocious campaign of demonetisation against the LGB Alliance. That brilliant alliance of homosexuals dares to deny the gospel of gender ideology, you see. It says – sin of sins – that you can’t have a todger and be a lesbian. That may have been a biological fact for millennia, but now it’s a scurrilous blasphemy. For these transgressions, for defending the truth of sex and the rights of the same-sex attracted, LGB Alliance has been monstered by trans agitators.
They call it ‘far right’. They called on the Charity Commission to remove its charity status. Davies himself joined in the hounding. ‘To cut out the T is to kill’, he said in a vicious swipe at LGB Alliance. That’s right – it’s apparently harmful to life itself for homosexuals to associate away from members of the opposite sex. The trans rage against LGB Alliance was a far more lunatic assault on a gay-rights group than anything Trump has done.
As for making gay folk ‘invisible’ – once again, step forward trans ideology. Lesbians in the UK have struggled to host speed-dating nights because fellas in dresses have turned up and said ‘I’m a lesbian, too!’. Officials in Victoria, Australia have ruled that a lesbian group cannot exclude ‘transgender women’ – ie, blokes – from its public events. So thanks to trans – not Trump – lesbians are denied the right to freely associate. Even the BBC, normally drunk on the Kool-Aid of trans, has clocked the homophobic impact of this ideology. In 2021 it reported on the young lesbians who feel compelled to sleep with ‘transwomen’ – men – because they fear being called ‘transphobic’.
You know who used to say that lesbians should sleep with men, that what these women really needed was a good seeing-to? Homophobes. Now, bizarrely, it’s an article of faith among self-styled ‘queers’. Britain’s main LGBT group, Stonewall, said lesbians who refuse to sleep with ‘transwomen’ – men – are akin to ‘sexual racists’. One young lesbian told the Beeb that ‘queer’ activists have likened her to Hitler because she refuses to sleep with men pretending to be women. Now that is how you make gays ‘invisible’ – induce in them such a sense of terror and shame that they agree to sleep with members of the opposite sex to avoid that ugly charge of ‘sexual racism’. We’d call such vile pressure on young gays ‘conversion therapy’ if it was being done by a religious hothead.
As for Trump longing to ‘biologically alter’ gay people to make them as ‘straight as him’ – is Davies taking the piss here? It’s his beloved trans movement that does that. Under that ideology, teens who would have grown up to be perfectly healthy homosexuals have been pumped with drugs to ‘correct’ their sex. We are living through a brutal mass conversion of untold numbers of young gays, with lesbians ‘biologically altered’ to become ‘straight men’ and gay lads ‘biologically altered’ to become ‘straight woman’. These are the lobotomies of our time, leading to the homophobic erasure of vast numbers of gay kids. It wasn’t Trump who spearheaded these gross experiments on gay bodies – it was ‘the T’ that Davies loves.
It’s so clear now that the usurping of the truth of sex with the lunacy of self-defined gender has been a disaster for homosexuals. For if sex isn’t real, then neither is same-sex attraction, and nor are same-sex rights. The very idea of homosexuality has been savagely trampled under the tyrannical boot of genderfluidity and self-ID. The irony is too much: in taking a stand against the trans ideology, Trump has done more for gay folk and their rights than any of those ‘queers’ who love to hate him.
