Today’s King’s Speech confirmed what many had long feared. Yes, Keir Starmer loves to present Labour as a party devoid of ideology. But his government is clearly planning to pursue an identitarian, environmentalist agenda. Putting aside the headline-grabbing proposals on house-building and the economy, Labour’s programme for its first year reads like a wishlist from woke activists. A proposed Equality Bill will give legal force to the principles of DEI. A bill banning ‘conversion practices’ means that therapists and parents will be forced to affirm children’s ‘trans’ identity. And the Great British Energy Bill, with its singular focus on green tech, proves that Net Zero matters more to Starmer than meeting the nation’s energy needs. Labour is fanatically committed to some of the worst ideas of our time. Those in favour of liberty, prosperity and common sense better be on their guard.
