Russ Peers: desperately seeking show title

Identity politics has been a boon to middling comics. Not sure how to bundle up your collection of club gags into a full Fringe show? Looking for a show title in time for the brochure deadline? Are you female, black, gay, trans, or, in a pinch, working class? Hey presto. Northern comic Russ Peers’ debut hour Bad Gay? is a case in point. Aside from a few self-deprecating lines about his weight and fashion sense, there’s little here about gay stereotypes at all. The rest is riffs on life, love and pies, replete with personal anecdotes. Peers is a likeable performer. But this is lightweight material dressed up as something more important.
