The UK Labour Party is reportedly planning to make ‘misgendering’ a hate crime if it wins the next election. Here, Tom Slater explains why this would be a terrible idea. Inviting the police to clamp down on ‘hate’ has already had outrageous and censorious consequences in Britain. What the authorities consider to be a ‘hate crime’ often amounts to little more than speech someone takes offence to – and existing laws have already been used to persecute gender-critical campaigners. We cannot allow the state to make hate criminals out of people, purely because they refuse to bend the knee to gender ideology. Watch, share and let us know what you think in the comments.
