The ‘progressive’ hissy fit after the UK Supreme Court ruled last month that sex means biological sex in law was truly something to behold. Trans activists claimed that it was an ‘evil’ decision that heralded a new age of ‘fascism’. Pundits were outraged, calling the ruling ‘profoundly unfair’. And a group of Labour ministers were reported to be plotting to undermine or even overturn the ruling.

Listening to the outcry, you could be forgiven for thinking that the Supreme Court’s judgement was deeply controversial. That upholding sex-based rights is an unpopular position.

But in truth the ruling was neither controversial nor unpopular. Not with the public, at least. A new YouGov poll has found that the vast majority – 63 per cent – of Britons support the Supreme Court’s ruling. They believe the court made the ‘right decision’ when it ruled that the word ‘woman’ in the Equality Act 2010 does not refer to those with penises.

Moreover, the poll shows that over half of Labour voters also support the ruling. A heartening stat showing that even the left-leaning are immune to the delusions of trans activists.

When it comes to the practical impact of the ruling, the poll paints an even starker picture. Nearly three-quarters (74 per cent) of the public agree with the subsequent decision made by assorted sporting bodies to ban transwomen from women’s competitions.

This poll shows that, despite what leftish media outlets might have you believe, the vast majority of people have never gone along with the trans-activist crusade. They don’t think biological males should be welcomed into women’s sports divisions, or that the policy of self-identification is a great advance for human rights. The court’s ruling is merely the legal rubber-stamping of what most people have always deemed true – that male and female are objective biological categories not subjective desires.

This poll is yet another reminder that public opinion on trans, as on many other hot-button issues, has never aligned with the activist class, no matter how loudly they shout. Never underestimate the wisdom of the masses.
