BBC Breakfast host Naga Munchetty has apologised for liking tweets that criticised the Union flag.
Munchetty found herself at the centre of a social-media storm after laughing during an interview with government minister Robert Jenrick. Her co-host, Charlie Stayt, joked about the size of the Union flag in Jenrick’s office, saying it was ‘not up to standard size’, and Munchetty laughed. Right-wing Twitter was outraged. ‘How dare she sneer at the flag?’, they fumed.

Then the outrage was dialled up even further. Tweeters noticed that Munchetty had ‘liked’ a number of tweets praising how she and her co-host handled the situation. One tweet said, ‘the flag shaggers will be up in arms’.
Now, these outraged right-wingers have extracted an apology. Munchetty tweeted her confession last night: ‘I “liked” tweets today that were offensive in nature about the use of the British flag as a backdrop in a government interview this morning. I have since removed these “likes”. This [does] not represent the views of me or the BBC. I apologise for any offence taken.’
I 'liked' tweets today that were offensive in nature about the use of the British flag as a backdrop in a government interview this morning.
I have since removed these 'likes'.
This do not represent the views of me or the BBC.
I apologise for any offence taken.

The whole row is absurd. Right-wingers are essentially hunting for signs of disloyalty to the nation in a BBC presenter’s laughs and likes. These are usually the first people to denounce the left as ‘snowflakes’ for taking offence too easily – and yet they have blown their tops over a mild dig at the British flag.
These right-wing snowflakes need to grow up.
