|Dr Robert M Moor
former head of the Protein Technologies Laboratory at the Babraham Institute
During my undergraduate years in South Africa, one of my lecturers invited me to participate in an experiment that he had planned with his UK colleagues. This first contact with serious research was central to my future in science, and led to an invitation from LEA Rowson to become one of his graduate students at the Animal Research Station in Cambridge.
The sheer quality, enthusiasm and modesty of the world-renowned scientists who inhabited that laboratory and others in Cambridge in the early 1960s made science an irresistible career choice for me.
