Jennifer Welch and the rise of the unhinged podcast moms

The success of this bullying, foul-mouthed ‘commentator’ speaks to a sickness on the contemporary American left.

Until about four days ago, I was blissfully unaware of the existence of one Jennifer Welch – a former reality-TV personality turned Democratic propagandist for the podcast age.

I now look back on my pre-Welch days as something like the Garden of Eden, a place I wish I could return to. I spend a lot of time keeping tabs on libtard excess, but this Welch lady really takes the biscuit.

It is hard to shake the suspicion that Welch has been designed in a progressive laboratory. Her purpose, it seems, is to spit out vitriol at the millions of her fellow Americans who she considers beneath her. I can picture the mad political scientists, trying to come up with the perfect formula for a new viral talking head: ‘Make her swear a lot. Yes, that’s what the people want! A deeply unpleasant middle-aged pottymouth with a pencil-shaped head!’ And, voila, out comes Welch.

Welch is certainly not trying to win over undecideds. No, she is dialling up the rage, which appears to be far more lucrative. Recently, she has called college swimmer turned conservative commentator Riley Gaines ‘an insufferable twat’ and cackled as a crazy Boomer ‘wine mom’ wished death on Republicans. Welch is giving strong murder vibes.

The meaner she gets, the more her popularity soars. Clearly, radicalised Democrats are ravenously hungry for progressive bile. Whether it’s her demands that the Democratic establishment ‘get on board with this shit’ – this shit being celebrating the assassination of Charlie Kirk – or calling Democratic leadership ‘pussies’ for supporting the State of Israel, these takes are an alarmingly accurate reflection of where the Democratic base is. Somewhere about a million miles away from civility and reason.

By endorsing these positions, progressives think they are being sassy and real – things regular people like. But they’re actually being cunty and unhinged – things only fellow cunty and unhinged people like. I don’t use that word lightly. How else would you describe a woman who said this about Gaines:

‘Nobody likes you. And no matter what, you will always have been the dumb bitch that tied for fifth place, and the only place that you can get a job is as a bottom feeder at Fox News, you insufferable twat. Nobody likes you.’

Is it just me, or does this rant sound like something a country-club mom, five G&T’s deep, would deliver to her least-favourite kid who just lost a tennis match? With podcast moms like Welch, all of blue America is going to need therapy.

I used to think Hollywood films about high school, with the vicious, backstabbing girls, were sensationalised versions of adolescent life. I am starting to think they were in fact documentaries about the teenage years of Jennifer Welch.

This weird mixture of juvenile insults and violent, jackboot talking points is unprecedented in my lifetime. Back in my day, high-school mean girls were bland centrists, to the extent they thought about politics at all. They were just smiling sadists with swishy hair who wanted to ruin people’s lives for the hell of it. That was bad enough.

Welch doesn’t just go after young athletes like Gaines, or Democrats with a firmer grip on reality than she has. To the surprise of no one, the aged prom queen now has Israel in her sights.

‘Go on an “I’m sorry I took AIPAC [American Israel Public Affairs Committee] money atonement tour” if you wanna stay in power’, she barked at Democrats who, in her view, have the temerity to support Israel. She is ‘super obsessed’, in her own words, with Islamist-apologist ‘socialist’ and Democratic candidate for the New York mayoralty, Zohran Mamdani. She delivers hardcore rants about ‘war criminal’ Benjamin Netanyahu, while flicking her blow-out blonde hair and displaying her sculpted shoulders in a tight-fitting white tank top. This type of woman simply did not exist a few years ago.

I have to be honest: Welch is a fascinating, charismatic creature. Watching her podcast, I realised she’s not far from a white, progressive version of Candace Owens. Like Owens, she is perfectly coiffed and dressed. Like Owens, she is obsessed with Israel and has an impressive knack for meting out verbal punishment beatings.

And like Owens, she is a sign that something has gone very wrong in the body politic. How else could two such evil women have such adoring fans?
