David Tennant knows less than nothing about the trans issue

The Doctor Who star is one of many gormless celebs to unwittingly endorse this reactionary agenda.

David Tennant has long presented himself as a so-called trans ally. The Doctor Who star was once spotted sporting a t-shirt saying ‘Leave trans kids alone’. He often dons a Pride-flag pin shaped like the Doctor’s Tardis. Now, for the first time, he has tried to explain his reasons for backing the trans movement. And the results are not pretty.

At the weekend, Tennant was asked at a convention in Germany about his ‘gender expression’. He then unwittingly revealed just how little grasp he actually has of the issues at stake.

‘When I was a kid, the idea of being nonbinary wasn’t something that existed’, he says in a video posted on TikTok, ‘I’ve seen that emerge and people are able to express themselves through that. It only ever seems positive as far as I can see.’

This doesn’t say much for the state of Tennant’s eyesight, given that only last month, the widely publicised Cass Review clearly laid out the impact that trans ideology has had on children. None of its findings could possibly be described as ‘positive’.

Tennant then goes on to address the gender-critical naysayers directly. He compares those who question gender ideology today with those who once opposed gay rights. This, in his view, puts them ‘on the wrong side of history’.

Doing his best impression of a dad who wants to get down with the kids, Tennant insists that the trans movement is ‘just about people being themselves. You don’t need to be bothered about it. Fuck off and let people be.’ Cue applause.

Of course, the idea that it is the gender zealots who are on ‘the right side of history’ is laughable. These are the same people calling for perfectly healthy kids – many of whom are simply struggling with their sexuality – to be given medically unnecessary drugs and surgeries. They demand that violent men be housed in women’s prisons. And they will call lesbians ‘bigots’ for not wanting to sleep with biological men. These seem like pretty reasonable things to be ‘bothered’ by.

All of this makes one wonder if David Tennant understands the reactionary agenda he is so eager to endorse.
