With the ongoing – if overblown – rise of the anti-immigration UK Independence Party (UKIP), and the lifting of working restrictions for Bulgarian and Romanian migrants on 1 January, immigration has once again shot to the top of the political agenda in Britain. But amid all the stat-swapping going on between left and right, there’s very little political substance to the current debate. Tonight, BBC2 will be showing The Truth About Immigration, a documentary aimed at airing the opinions of the British public, and presenting the definitive ‘facts’ on immigration. But before you subject yourself to what will surely be another unedifying exercise in apolitical number-crunching, watch The More The Merrier, a documentary made by education charity WORLDwrite, that makes the moral and political case for freedom of movement for all.
