Now, as the heat of the protests and repression dies down, perhaps we might try to help to throw some light on a way ahead. What Burma needs most is surely internal democracy, not international diplomacy. To achieve that end, history suggests that the activists will have to mobilise the Burmese people more than appeal to world opinion…’
