Anna Somers Cocks
founding editor and group editorial director of the Art Newspaper, and chair of the Venice in Peril Fund

In the field of journalism, the challenge is whether we are going to be allowed by commercial interests and increasing political pressure to present the true complexity of world events. The degree of self-censorship exercised by the US media in the run-up to the Iraq war has been a shocking warning to us all. The biggest challenge of all is whether the politicians in the rich West will recognise the reality of climate change and introduce the changes that are vital if we are to have any hope of slowing down the process.

Anna Somers Cocks is coauthor of Renaissance Jewels, Gold Boxes and Objets de Vertu (buy this book from Amazon (UK) or Amazon (USA))
