The key challenge for Africa, my continent, in the next eighteen years or so is to learn to unlearn.
Knowledge makes all the difference but it is for us to use and not vice versa. When an average African expresses admiration for the European or American for the wonderful scientific feats of today, I remind them that what we are witnessing is not the ‘greatness of the white man’ but the direct consequence of applied knowledge.
The key challenge is to use education to unlock the minds potential rather than simply transfer information from one to another. There is no point building on a contaminated way of thinking. The challenge now is learn to unlearn; starting with the educator.
Africa is destined to be great and our current condition is no pointer to our future.
