‘If we hadn’t defended NAMBLA, no one would have’

In 2000, the Massachusetts chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) made the news when it chose to defend the paedophile group, the North American Man-Boy Love Association (NAMBLA). The family of a murdered child were suing NAMBLA, arguing that it was their pro-paedophile literature that had inspired the child’s abductors. Author, lawyer and former member of the Massachusetts ACLU, Wendy Kaminer, explains why it was crucial that the ACLU took the case.
