I am self-interested here. The greatest innovation in my field is the internet architecture - the concept that a single, open, evolving architectural structure could encompass all of communications, resulting in the synergy of a digital communications revolution that has not yet reached its limits, it is the equivalent of the electric power grid, the automobile/highway system, or even the printing press. Conceived by Licklider and Taylor as a ‘network of all networks’, defined and realised by Vint Cerf and Bob Kahn via the internet Protocol family, and filled out and proven in its worth by many, including myself (thus the self-interest).
