I am afraid that recombinant DNA technology has made the biggest difference to the way my kind of biologist works today. We couldn’t have got anywhere without it. I say ‘afraid’ because (1) the phrase is ugly and (2) recombinant DNA technology stands for a whole panoply of clever tricks and brilliant inventions that have earned their many originators scores (or at least dozens) of Nobel prizes.
