Watch the 1995 film Apollo 13, which portrays many key attributes that should be valued by society

I think that everyone should watch the 1995 film Apollo 13, directed by Ron Howard, which portrays many key attributes that should be valued by society. There's the scientific endeavour and technological achievement, to put men into space. There's the bravery of humans, and their willingness to take risks, in the pursuit of expanding and deepening our knowledge. There's the role of teamwork. And there's the lateral thinking needed, regardless of age, to solve problems.

This film reflects the underlying ordinariness of the science and technology that is, however, critical to our quality of life - protecting our environment, and assuring our future wealth. Through film, science is seen to be integral to our culture and everyday lives. The act of watching is a testament to what science and technology can do, but is often taken for granted.
